Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am fundraising on behalf of my best friend Betsy (Helmle) Wijas.

Betsy is married to Jason and they have 3 children Hope (12), Henry (12) and Hazel (9). On Thursday November 7th Betsy called me with the news. Her biopsy results were in: cancer. Betsy had her first routine mammogram earlier this month. Something was suspicious so they send her for an ultrasound and biopsy. Initially I wasn’t worried, this stuff is routine right? But nothing could have prepared me for that text. My best friend has cancer. Thankfully, Betsy’s cancer is caught early and the team of doctors is hopeful she will only need surgery and possibly radiation. But as you know, the future is uncertain.

Betsy is always one to give to others. She has her own baking business and is always giving to others, especially those in need. She gives to her family and friends and has a hard time charging us even when we place special orders. She is highly involved in her kids’ sports and volunteers her time coaching.

While Betsy and Jason have health insurance, there is no doubt that they will incur extra medical expenses from Betsy’s upcoming surgery and treatments thereafter. Jason will have to take time off work and they will have increased trips to Green Bay for medical appointments. There are many things Betsy will need post-surgery and she will not be working for some time.
