Hi. my name is Kristen. i own a small business in the town of kearny for many years as well other businesses formally, i have participated in many fundraisers and charities and even helped host many fundraisers myself. my mother Betsy Hemphill has been faced with a financial crisis where she was served “warrant for removal” she has to vacate her apartment by Friday Feb 28 8am. I, her daughter have exhausted all options i have access to, and also options for support via the county, or state. she makes a few dollars too much to qualify for state funding. she being handicap and a former US Marine Corps Veteran, nobody can seem to help her or assist her. i wouldn’t never ever do this if i had any other options. i promise for all and any help we receive for my mother i shall return ten fold. i promise.

a lot of family and close friends are asking how we reached this point. march 2024, Betsy had retired from her company. she physically could not walk. July 2024 she under went her first hip replacement surgery. we were told to apply for short term disability. she was approved for 3 months. waiting to schedule her 2nd hip replacement surgery, She was then refused short term disability. She had zero income coming in after being dropped from disability with no explanation. We then got in contact with SSI and she retired earlier than her age, so now is penalized and takes a pay cut from SSI monthly. at this point she was now over 90 days of receiving any income. i had just fully returned to work after maternity leave, so i myself exhausted any savings. i have applied for multiple state and county and veteran programs to assist her during this time covering travel costs to and from manhattan for medical services from the VA. we had to hire an aid to come and assist only 10/12 hours a week. finally when her SSI early payments started coming in we were already too far behind. i have helped her catch up on payments until feb and her final payment March. These funds will be covering costs which include 2 months rent, 2 months back rent, legal fees, court fees, check fees. her SSI check is going to be half the amount due to Medicare penalizing her for medical plans she did not need (plan B) so instead of them fixing it right away they are sending her February and March benefits almost half of her normal amount

a dollar can go a long way, a share can go even further. if you cannot help financially that’s okay, just share her link, that’s big enough. thank you
