Help Bethany Fight GPA & Support Her Family Through this Difficult TIme

Our dear friend Bethany is currently facing one of the toughest battles of her life, after two months of dealing with mysterious symptoms and searching for answers she has been diagnosed with a rare, aggressive auto-immune condition called GPA (Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis, also known as Wegener Disease or Vasculitis) which has been wreaking havoc on her body, causing tissues to rapidly breakdown, resulting in multiple lesions in various areas including her lungs, mouth and bladder.

Bethany has been admitted to hospital to receive life-saving treatment involving multiple rounds of high-dose steroids through IV and immune-suppressing infusions to halt the diseases` progression and begin the healing process. The damage from this disease in just a short time has created significant complications that will require 4-5 surgeries over several months to repair and recover from, including tissue & bone grafting.

On top of the physical & emotional toll, this experience has introduced a huge financial strain. Because of the uncommon nature of the particular presentation of GPA, long-term treatment will require rounds of infusions every six months to a year for the rest of her life. They are necessary to keep the condition at bay & cost approx $6000 each. While there are options for coverage, this does not compensate for the amount of time she has been off work dealing with her illness & will continue to be off work during her treatment and recovery.

Bethany has poured her heart and soul into building her small business over the past 4 years & a deeply heart-felt thank you goes out to her devoted team of committed staff who have been doing a remarkable job of keeping things running smoothly. By continuing to serve & meet client needs during this very uncertain time, their dedication is allowing her to focus on her health. Despite this, she is newly challenged with the inability to sustain the income of when she, herself, was also working full-time alongside her crew to support her family. She has sincerely been missing her clients & doing the work that she loves!

At home, Bethany`s partner Chad has become the sole care provider for their son, working as much as he possibly can (also being self-employed) & doing everything necessary to keep their family strong while also travelling back and forth to the hospital in Halifax to be with her while she receives the care she needs. As winter slowly approaches and work naturally slows down, we`re hoping to ease some of the financial pressure that comes with travel costs, household bills and basic expenses while they navigate this overwhelming season.

Bethany is the kind of person who gives so much of herself to others & now it's our turn to show up for her.
