Help Bethany Attend the Vermont Studio Center Residency
Hi, I'm Bethany Moody, an interdisciplinary artist and arts educator. After years of applying, I was recently accepted into the Vermont Studio Center (VSC) Residency Program, a long-time dream come true. I was originally waitlisted, but was thrilled to be offered a spot for their June session. Unfortunately, because of the timing of my acceptance, I am no longer eligible for fellowship funding. The total cost of the residency is $3,442.50, which must be paid in full by May 25, 2025 — less than two weeks before the residency begins on June 9. In addition to the residency cost, I will need an estimated $1500 in material and transportation funds.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at a pivotal moment in my career. I've been applying to VSC since 2017, and the chance to spend three weeks immersed in an inspiring, supportive community of artists would be deeply meaningful. This residency would also help me build connections and expand my network beyond the South — opening up new possibilities for collaboration, growth, and creative exchange.
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve built a dedicated artistic practice. I've mounted solo exhibitions at the Gadsden Museum of Art, The Old Bailey Gallery, and COOP Gallery, among others. I’ve received several grants and awards, including a 2025 Individual Artist Fellowship in Craft from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. My work will also be featured in the upcoming 2025 Alabama Triennial at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts. I currently serve as an Instructor of Foundations at the University of Alabama and am an artist-member at Ground Floor Contemporary.
If you're able to contribute, no matter the amount, your support would mean the world to me. Thank you so much for helping me take this important step forward.
With gratitude,
Bethany

UPDATE: As of May 19th, I have made the tough decision to reschedule my residency to allow for more fundraising time. My new residency dates are December 1 - 19, with the total balance of $3325 due 10/17/2025. With your help, I've paid the $500 deposit to hold my spot.
Unfortunately, flying from Alabama to Vermont in December is expensive; based on my research, I expect my travel costs to be around $1000.
With the residency fee and travel combined, that means I'll need $4325. If you add the $500 deposit I've already paid, that puts expenses at $4825, leaving me with just $175 for a materials budget. Combined with my own saving efforts, I think I can make this work.
Thank you again for donating and sharing! With your help, I can make this happen!
