Bethany and Shane’s life together began when they met on a dating app, Bumble. Shane’s bio on Bumble said, “If you can’t handle me at my worstershire, you don’t deserve me at my besteshire.” Little did they know this phrase would eventually have meaning for both of them. They were married in May of 2023, purchased their first home in 2024 with future plans of starting their family and creating their life love story. They adopted a golden retriever who they named Ellie. We affectionately call her Ellie Belly. Bethany provides care for others as a registered dietician, and Shane is an analyst with Sherwin Williams. They were off to a great start until February 2025 when Bethany saw an orthopedic specialist for pain in her right shoulder. At that time, she was told she had a winged scapula. She was advised in time, with physical therapy, it would eventually heal itself. Bethany participated in physical therapy activities until the pain in her shoulder became so intense she went to the ER on May 28th.

On June 20th, Beth was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. Ewing sarcoma is a rare and aggressive cancerous tumor that typically develops in bones or the soft tissues surrounding them, such as cartilage or nerves. This type of cancer has uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. As such, the cancer that started in the shoulder spread, causing lesions along Beth’s spine and skull with fractures at her T1 vertebrae and scapula. As you can imagine, this has caused excruciating nerve, bone, and muscle pain for Bethany. Everything hurts!

Her expected treatment plan involves 14 cycles of chemotherapy that require stays in and out of the hospital, several PET scans, and the monitoring of her heart health. She and Shane have learned that chemo can affect fertility. They will be consulting with a fertility clinic prior to the start of treatment to learn options and take necessary steps in the hope that one day they can start their family.

This GoFundMe is created to help alleviate some of the financial burden of medical expenses and life needs. Shane is the only income earner at this time while Beth focuses all of her energy on healing and managing her health. Bethany is scheduled for a PET scan on 6/23/25 with costs expected to be in upwards of $3,000 to $6,000 that insurance does not cover. This is the first of several to be completed along this treatment journey.
