Beth Israel Congregation is the heart of the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina's Jewish Community. The congregation began in 1912, but Jews have been living in the Florence area since the 1800s. Built in 1949 and renovated in the 1970s, the drop-ceiling of the sanctuary has begun to sag. The tiles for this ceiling are no longer available, so a new ceiling grid and panels will need to be installed. The congregation has less than 60-member families, so this would be a huge undertaking to repair on its own.

We hope to provide a space for all community members, Jews and non-Jews who wish to worship with us, that can create the holiness for a meaningful worship experience. The current situation also creates a safety hazard.

Any donations beyond what it takes to repair the ceiling will go towards other needed repairs to the building.
