I have been accepted as a patient by a world renowned Mito specialist to help figure out which mitochondrial disease I have and give me a treatment plan I can follow. However, this doctor is in Atlanta and not covered by my insurance. I am mostly wheelchair bound and traveling will be difficult. I need my father to come with me. Traveling in a wheelchair and with my 24/7 IV needs will be tricky, and sadly, expensive. Taking an extra bag for medical stuff, getting wheelchair accessible rooms and rental cars are all much more difficult than I first imagined. I would be so very grateful if you could help me make this journey. All follow up appointment can be telehealth and having a diagnosis would allow me access to a much greater variety of care. It would also give my doctors here a plan to follow.
The approximate breakdown of the cost is as follows (exact numbers will vary depending on availability):
Doctor visit 1000
Flights 600
Bag fees 50-100
Accessible Hotel 600 (3 nights)
Accessible Rental Car 400 (3-4 days depending on flight times)
Meals/Travel Expenses 300
Thank you so very much for everything. I am eternally grateful for this opportunity to have a chance at a quality of life. Since this all began in May 2020 I have had so little quality of life. It’s hope of this appointment that keeps me fighting most days.
