To Smile, something we aim for daily, not just for ourselves but our loved ones too. That is what I’m aiming for my best friend Beth. My name is Makayla and I am hoping to raise $10,000 for Beth. Seeking donations of money and advice. Talk about a world flipped and turned upside down.

In the beginning of the year Beth realized that she needed a career change to reduce stress, resulting in leaving her career as a teacher behind to find her new chapter in life. However, in March, after experiencing tightness and swelling in her neck, as well as difficulty breathing, she was referred to the emergency room by her primary care physician. Once there, it was determined that there was a mass which was pressing on several veins (SVC syndrome). She was hospitalized for 6 days, which included a biopsy that was later determined to show Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After undergoing several more tests, she had a central line installed in order to receive chemotherapy. She then received her first infusion of chemotherapy in the hospital and will continue with chemotherapy every 2 weeks. We are hopeful and the doctors are confident, but that doesn’t stop the flow of the unexpected expenses on top of being in the midst of transitioning careers.

We are hoping to raise the money to help minimize stress on Beth and her family both immediate and extended. I have never seen someone more strong and independent while always being there for her family, including myself and the lives she touched over her years teaching. It’s our turn to be there for her.
