I want to introduce you all to Bert who is an 85-year-old man still working to pay monthly bills, medication and medical procedures for his 81-year-old wife, Rae.
Bert, a Navy Veteran and lung cancer survivor, once owned a computer programming business that was unable to remain viable. He subsequently worked at Slatery Skanska for more than ten years before transitioning to a remote position upon relocating to Florida. Following the conclusion of that role, Bert has been employed by Uber Eats for over a year, committing to working 5 days a week for 7 to 8 hours each day, depending on his health. He now has been forced to adjust his work hours to 3 to 4 days per week because of the increased gas prices, which have made it difficult for him to afford fuel for his commute.
Bert, who has two problematic hips and has undergone surgery to remove half of a lung due to cancer, accompanies his 81-year-old wife, Rae, to work as she struggles with balance issues and requires constant supervision to prevent any potential falls or injuries.
He is currently overwhelmed with various responsibilities and is facing significant financial concerns on top of everything. Regrettably, Bert has sustained injuries while making deliveries and climbing stairs.
One incident resulted in two black eyes and a very large contusion on his forehead as seen in the picture above. Despite feeling sore and tired, Bert continues to deliver food daily with a smile and a couple of jokes to share.
Bert's story was featured on Wink News on 3/25/26. Click below link to watch. His story will also be in the Cape Coral Breeze paper on 4/3/26.
I have initiated a fundraiser to support Bert in achieving the quality of life he deserves and to alleviate the financial burden of paying off a mortgage on his modest condo, managing maxed-out credit cards from living expenses, and covering exorbitant monthly medication costs for himself and his wife. Some of the medications are essential for his wife's well-being. Bert is unable to afford several medications that his wife had to discontinue due to their high cost.
Bert does not have any social media accounts to share his story, making it challenging to connect with others and promote his GoFundMe campaign. Please help spread the word as he is in need of support. Thank you for sharing.
All funds raised will be used to cover Bert's living expenses and medical care. If Bert's story has touched you and you wish to support this Navy Veteran, please consider donating or sharing his story to reach more individuals who may want to make a difference and provide Bert with a second chance at retirement. Thank you, and may God bless us all.
