Help Bernice Roberts’ fight against cancer

Donation protected
We have started this Go-Fund-Me with the hopes that Bernice’s friends and loved ones could come together and rally around her, in any way they can. In March of 2017, Bernice received the diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma.  Leiomyosarcoma is a rare form of cancer that affects smooth muscle tissue and impacts roughly 6 out of every 1,000,000 women.  While she has continued to put up a strong fight against this cancer and since then has been able to fight it each time on her own, this time, it’s proving to be extremely difficult for her without some help - our help, and if possible, your help. In July 2019, Bernice had surgery to remove two cancerous tumors on her lung.  At her 8-week checkup, they found three more tumors (on the same lung she had previous surgeries on to remove cancerous tumors) and the doctors decided to go the conservative route, rather than the previous invasive surgeries, and watch them closely.  In November 2019, while they found those tumors to be stable, but sadly, they found an additional tumor on her lower back muscle that didn’t show up until it grew to its size.  The treatment plan for the most recent tumor was radiation on the site, and of course like superwoman, she worked through these rounds of treatment.  She was monitored throughout that treatment plan and was recently given the news that the tumors have grown to an alarming size and is now at point where she must undergo additional and more aggressive treatments. Now, after two years without a chemo-port, Bernice underwent the procedure to have a port put back in order to have weekly chemotherapy treatments.  She’s now required to have her chemotherapy treatments at home so she is not exposed to anything that would be detrimental to her health – especially due to the additional risks she faces these days with Covid-19 and its impact on immune-compromised people.  As of April 29th, Bernice has been undergoing at-home chemotherapy treatments and is unable to go to work because of the chemotherapy treatments and it would be a huge risk to her health, or possibly, her life. While each of her fights have been unique, this round is proving to be tougher for Bernice to take on without our assistance.  Because she’s undergoing chemotherapy treatments, she’s an ‘immune compromised’ person that needs to be kept safe in the ‘new normal’.  Because of these risks, she had to make some seriously tough decisions and financially impacting changes to her life; changes that she previously fought her way through without additional the need for financial assistance.  In order to keep herself safe, Bernice cannot work for the foreseeable future (even if she wants to).   Safety for Bernice now means she must stay home and keep her contact even more limited than ever before without any options for work and a regular paycheck coming in.Prior to the discovery of the cancerous tumors and this recent treatment plan, Bernice was able to celebrate her last radiation treatment on December 20, 2019.  Further back, she was super excited to return to work on May 18, 2018.  We know she will celebrate going back to work again, but until then, we’re humbly asking, on her behalf, for some assistance in this transition to alleviate her additional medical bills and not being able to work.If you are unable to assist financially, we completely understand and know that you still love and support Bernice. We do ask you though: please keep Bernice in your prayers and share this link in order to help release her from worrying about finances when she should be solely focused on her health and well-being.We are grateful for your thoughts, prayers, loving notes/texts/emails/IMs and whatever assistance you are able provide.  Please stay safe, healthy and take care of yourself and your loved ones.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
