Help For Bernetta Bea Nitz (MassiveHeart Attack)

On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, my Mother in Law, Bernetta Nitz, suffered a massive heart attack while at work at Porter Regional Hospital in Portage, IN. She went into full Cardiac Arrest while her heart was in V-Fib. She was worked on (CPR/AED) for approx 20 minutes then raced to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, IN via ambulance.. She was taken to the Cath Lab where they cleared her arteries that were 100% blocked on the right and left side. She has since been in critical condition in the ICU on a ventilator. Tuesday night (Dec 14th), they fully removed all sedatives and pain meds so they can get an accurate neurological read on her. They also want to get her to follow commands so they can try to remove the ventilator. So far, she periodically responds to requests of moving her feet, squeezing hands, smiling, and opening her eyes. The doctors are hopeful that she will make a recovery, but it is going to take a lot of time and prayer.

She has a long road ahead of her. If you know Bernetta (Bea), you know she would give anyone her last dime to make sure they had what they need, even if that meant that she had to go without. Bernetta needs everyone’s help now. As hard as it is to focus on anything else right now, the bills still have to be paid, and unfortunately, so many more are piling up as the days continue. Medical bills are not cheap, and on top of that, she’s obviously now out of work, and her husband, Frank, has also been out of work so he can be by the side of his wife and available if anything changes. Bernetta has worked for over 20 years at Porter hospital. She’s in charge of making sure that when you come in, you have a clean place to sit and be seen. She’s worked herself to the bone. Since Covid, she has been working 6+ days a week. If anyone has dedication, it’s Bernetta.
