Help Bernadette Peters Reclaim Her Home

Donation protected

Bernadette Peters, is a Black elder and survivor of domestic violence perpetrated by her ex-husband, Marcus Nedd. Marcus Nedd’s abuse escalated from physical violence to theft of Ms. Nedd’s house that she has lived in for over 30 years. Marcus Nedd has weaponized the legal system to be seen as the victim, instead of the offender, and utilizes the well-known anti-woman systems and tactics of patriarchy and sexism to harm and disempower not only Ms. Peters, but her daughter, as Black women.
Ms. Peters is not only the victim of targeted physical violence, but also of predatory lawyers such as Nigel Blackmen Esq., who has stolen her money and failed to fight her case on her behalf, Mahtthew J Kazansky who has also failed to fight for Ms. Peters, and her abuser’s lawyer, Bryan Perkins who continues to lead the charge against Ms. Peters’ displacement, and joins the above mentioned in being complicit in having Ms. Peters commanded to leave her home with only 11 days' notice.

The Peters family urgently needs assistance to prevent the fraudulent repossession of their home—a home they have poured over 30 years of investment and effort into, a home that should be passed down to future generations.
Bernadette Peters moved from Port of Spain,Trinidad, to the United States with her 6-year-old daughter, Kathyann.
In 1992, Bernadette achieved the dream of homeownership when she purchased a brownstone in Brooklyn. Two years later, she married Marcus Nedd. On the original mortgage, Bernadette was listed as the sole owner with 99% ownership, while Marcus held a 1% stake, a detail that was both agreed upon and legally documented.

After enduring years of physical and emotional abuse, Bernadette reached out for help, and in 2020, she made the difficult decision to divorce Marcus Nedd.

Despite her efforts to come to a fair agreement on the house, Bernadette describes how both Marcus and his lawyer, Bryan Perkins, consistently worked toward taking the home from her and her family. Throughout the entire legal process, Bernadette faced mistreatment from both Marcus and his legal team, as well as from judges such as Rachel Adams, in the court proceedings.

On February 11, 2025, while Bernadette was at work, her daughter Kathyann called, frantic. A sheriff had arrived at the house. Kathyann explained that her young son, still asleep in bed before his afternoon class, had been abruptly woken by a stranger who ordered them to leave. The stranger insisted they take a jacket and evacuate the house immediately with their dog, despite the frigid 25-degree temperature and impending snowfall.

In addition to this chaos, Bernadette has two tenants—both elderly men with medical conditions—who were also forcibly removed from the property without warning. One of the tenants is undergoing cancer treatment, with his medication stored in the house’s refrigerator. The other tenant is partially deaf. Additionally, Bernadette suffers from a heart condition and other medical issues. By law, Adult Protective Services (APS) should have been present given the age and medical conditions of the residents.
The situation has been further complicated by a Supreme Court ruling appointing a receiver, Stephen R. Marksman, to oversee the removal of everyone from the property and the eventual sale of the home. Mr. Marksman has refused to allow the tenants to retrieve their personal belongings, worsening the hardship for everyone involved. Due to this situation everyone who lived in this house is now experiencing homelessness.
Please help the Peters family to raise money towards lawyer fees, Marshall and sheriff fees, and temporary housing costs.
