Many of you may remember Berkley from Glynn County Animal Shelter before he made his way to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue and found his forever home. Berkley, now lovingly named Reznor, finally got the life every rescue dog deserves.
After adoption, during a routine veterinary visit, a grade 4/6 heart murmur was detected. Further testing confirmed a serious diagnosis: severe pulmonic stenosis.
This is a congenital heart defect where the pulmonic valve is severely narrowed, forcing his heart to work dangerously hard. Reznor’s echocardiogram showed a pressure gradient of 130 mmHg, placing him at risk for heart failure and arrhythmias without intervention.
The recommended treatment is a specialized procedure called a balloon valvuloplasty, which can dramatically improve blood flow and extend his life.
The estimated cost for surgery and hospitalization is $8,064, not including follow up care and medications.
If we are able to raise enough funds, Reznor’s balloon valvuloplasty will likely be scheduled for April so he can receive treatment as soon as possible.
This diagnosis came as an unexpected finding during a routine exam. His parents are fully committed to giving him every chance at a long, healthy life, but this is a significant, unforeseen expense.
Reznor is only 3 years old. He deserves many more years of tail wags, long walks, and couch cuddles.
If you feel moved to help, every dollar truly makes a difference.
And if you are not able to donate, sharing his story helps more than you know.
