If you know Berkeley, you love Berkeley.
He is the littlest love, and a very special guy. For almost a decade, Berkeley has been my constant companion, my source of joy, and my unwavering love and support through life's ups and downs. He's not just a pet- he's family.
Berkeley is not your ordinary dog- he's a gentle and sweet old soul who has the ability to spread happiness wherever he goes. Berkeley is a loving spirit with a sweet nature. Anyone who's had the privilege of meeting him knows what a special boy he is. His warm, soulful eyes have a way of melting hearts. Berkeley is well loved for his gentle demeanor and his funny, quirky personality. He's always on the hunt for a snack or morsel (if you know, you know) but is always down to cuddle up, relax and snore loudly by your side.
That's why it's especially hard for me to share that Berkeley has recently been diagnosed with grade 2 mast cell cancer. Hearing that your dog has cancer is every dog owner's biggest fear. While this diagnosis is scary, it's also treatable – but it requires quick attention.
Grade 2 mast cell cancer is a type of skin cancer that, with the right treatment, can be managed effectively. However, time is of the essence. This type of cancer can become aggressive, which is why it's crucial to start treatment as soon as possible. He has already had one surgery to remove a mass, but he has more bumps that since learning he has cancer, have become an urgent concern. We have spoken to an oncologist, and are on the journey towards treatment.
I was hopeful that the treatments would be minimal and easy, but that is not the case. I’ve battled with the idea of launching this gofundme campaign, but at this moment- I feel like I have no other option. I want to break down the treatment- so you can all know where the number comes from, as it is more than I could imagine ever having to ask for. The initial plan she suggested was 3 steps. Those 3 steps with the 2 surgeries would have put me just above $18k. That brought uncontrollable tears to my eyes, as that is not a financially feasible option for me right now. So we went on to option 2- which was to just focus on the last 2 steps of the treatment plan, as they are still expected to have a positive outcome, while being less aggressive. Those last 2 treatments fall just around $7000. So we decided to go forward with that plan. The cost of the surgeries will land just above $3k- which is why I set the goal at $9500. This amount is based just off of the treatments and surgeries, not including the post treatment care and regular bloodwork that will need to be done for months following treatment to make sure the treatments worked and that the cancer does not return.
Berkeley is still in good health and young enough to have a speedy recovery, which is why I'm reaching out for help. Your support can make all the difference in making sure Berks gets all the medical attention he needs.
By donating to our crowdfunding campaign, you'll be providing Berkeley with the best medical care possible, giving him the opportunity to live a long, happy, and healthy life. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in his journey toward recovery. If you can't contribute financially, your positive thoughts and love for Berkeley mean the world to us.
Thank you for being a part of Berkeley's journey towards recovery and for helping us ensure he has many more years of love and happiness ahead.
Berkeley update-
His second surgery is Wednesday, October 4th. I will share photos and results as we go along.
October 9th update- His surgery went so so well! He is all set up in his post surgery outfit and his little protective donut. He is acting himself again, and has energy and is very happy. He went on his first outing since the surgery last night, and he had a great time. He has about 10 more days to heal completely from the surgery, and then we will be able to get the stitches removed.
Here is a sweet picture of him going out with us last night after his surgery.
