Help Bergan get life changing surgery!
As many of you know, our sister Bergan was injured in Afghanistan while serving our country back in February 2010. We are thankful that she survived, but her severe injuries resulted in the amputation of her right leg. She has recently been given the opportunity to undergo Osseointegration Amputation Reconstruction surgery and needs your help!
From Bergan:
“On February 24, 2010 while serving in Afghanistan, I was injured by an IED blast that ultimately took my right leg above the knee. I was immediately evacuated back to the States where I would undergo over 20 surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy. Since then I have been wearing the traditional socket and prosthetic. Over the last 10 years or so, I have suffered from poor fitting sockets, skin breakdown and constant pain. With Osseointegration, all of these issues will go away! This surgery eliminates the use of a socket thus improving my gait and overall comfort (see video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5qZNDNwtik ). I will be traveling to NYC to the Hospital for Special Surgeries (HSS) to undergo Osseointegration by the #1 orthopedic surgeon in the country, Dr. Robert Rozbruch in August. Since this is an elective surgery, I will be responsible for paying the surgeons fee out of pocket. My health insurance will pay some of the hospital fees, but not all. Since I will be traveling back and forth to NYC for the next 12-18 months, travel expenses (i.e. gas, lodging, tolls, parking, food) will also add up quickly.”
This is a great opportunity that will not only help Bergan to overcome her physical limitations, but will also allow her to participate more fully in the activities of her energetic 7 year old daughter, Willow.
Any & all donations will be greatly appreciated! Please message us directly if you would like to use an alternate method (Venmo, cash, check) to make a donation.
