Help Bérengère & Family Recover from Beirut Blast
Donazione protetta
On August 4 a massive explosion shook all of Beirut. My dear French sister Bérengère Pineau and her Lebanese husband Yamen and sons Liam (6), Noam (4) and Safy (1) were in their Beirut apartment overlooking the port.
The boys playing happily in their apartment on August 3
Immediately after the first smaller explosion, Bérengère grabbed the three boys, ran to the most sheltered area of the apartment, and shielded them with her body. The second deafening blast came no more than 30 seconds later and blew out all the glass and many of the walls in their apartment.
Her husband was on the balcony filming the first explosion when the second explosion hit. He was blown back into the apartment by the blast. This video is his - you can see how close their apartment is to the port.
By some miracle the whole family was able to get out of the building with only minor injuries. But their apartment and cars were nearly completely destroyed.

Since the explosion they have been staying between friends and hotels, which is challenging with such young children. At this point they don't know what is next and whether it will even be possible to repair and eventually return to their apartment.

The family is still in emotional shock and processing the massive devastation in Beirut and in their home.

Our goal is to raise 15000 euros within the next two weeks to cover their family's temporary living expenses, help them get a working car and support cleanup costs as they sort through their apartment and salvage what they can.
Please join us in showing your love and support and solidarity with this beloved family. Thank you!
Note: If you are donating from a US Bank or credit card the exchange rate you'll be given is about 1.2 dollars for each Euro. So a 100 Euro donation will show up as about US$120 on your bank statement.
