Ken at the fish market, picking up fish. Still can't believe he cuts these up himself....but I do enjoy the finished product!

“During the pandemic, Ken was still making beautiful edible art (for take out) and it was perfect!” --Yelp review

I love this review, but it makes me feel like something we might be saying when the pandemic is over, and Benten is gone.  How sad that would be! That stretch of road on 25A in Miller Place would look so barren without Benten.

I can't believe it was over 30 years ago, Ken and his mom Shoko were running the restaurant in a Mount Sinai strip mall across from Amici's. Twenty years later, they moved to their new building in Miller Place. It was so beautiful! The sushi bar had the overhang, like you were sitting outside, and the ceiling was so high that it felt like you were looking up at the night sky. But still, it felt cozy and warm, and they took good care of you.

It's still just the way it was--the most quiet, relaxing place to eat, with always delicious go-to comfort-food.  Plus, sitting at the bar watching Ken make sushi is more entertaining than going to a movie on Friday night. Everybody loves Ken -- kids and adults. I remember when my children were small, they had never seen sushi before, but he taught them how to make the rolls. They thought they were little sushi masters after that. They're grown up now, but they still love sushi.

Unfortunately, like so many of our local restaurants, Benten needs a push right now in order to survive the pandemic. I made this GoFundMe page to help them. Please help Benten stay afloat.

Other ways to help:

-give a big tip next time you go, or give Ken some cash in-person
-order from Benten, either take-out or dine-in
-don't use GrubHub (tip doesn't go to restaurant)
-forward this link to others, spread awareness
-write them a good review somewhere
