Hi everyone! I'm raising money for my dog, Benson, as he's been experiencing some health issues with pre-cancerous lumps popping up across his body. Early May, we found the first lump on his neck, by his thyroid. We did an aspirate and cytology of the lump and found that it was cystic epithelial neoplasia with necrosis and mononuclear inflammation, which was the first sign of thyroid cancer. Then, we had to do an ultrasound and perform surgery to remove the mass. Afterward, the X-Ray results showed that the majority of the mass was removed successfully. Still, the veterinarian recommended we speak to an Oncology specialist who then said we had to keep an eye on it by doing X-Rays every 3 months and Ultrasounds every 6 months. Oddly a day later, I found another lump on Benson's back, right by his hip. After taking him to the vet again, they recommended another surgery, which has already been scheduled to occur.
All of the events that have happened thus far is something I never imagined would happen to Benson, as naive as that may sound. He's always been a kind dog that would lay around the house all day if he could-- up until we went out for his walks and saw other dogs. I rescued him when he was 2 and now, he's already 6. He's grown so much since then, from his reactivity to his obedience and patience! The thought of being unable to pay for all the vet visits that have come up lately and continue to come if his health does not get better worries me greatly.
Thank you to anyone who can help out in any way, I would love to keep Benson living as long and healthy as he can. It really means the world to us both! <3
7/23 Update:
Benson received surgery on his lower back almost 2 weeks ago now. The vets removed a benign necrotic lipoma. He's recovering well on pain meds and antibiotics. As for now, we will keep an eye on his thyroid cancer thru X-rays and ultrasounds every 3-6 months and hope it doesn't return. We are so grateful for everyone's kindness and the donations received. Without it, getting Benson the treatment he needs would have proven to be difficult. I'll continue to provide updates as his health progresses. Thank you again!!
