Little Benedict Asher, Benny, was picked up on the side of the road a few weeks back with a mangled leg that had to be amputated. I met him about a week after admission at a hospital I worked at and knew he needed specialized care that I could provide as a veterinary technician.
With a suspected spinal cord injury, he had been experiencing urine retention and fecal incontinence when I rescued him. After a few days of keeping his bladder empty, he began to urinate on his own! And he appears to be developing increased rectal tone, though not enough to control his bowel movements—yet! He has a neurology appointment this week.
All of this I knew and expected. But, after getting him home, an exam revealed several of his upper and lower molars are fractured below the gumline with root remnants visible. His condition will require going to a veterinary dentist for dental x-rays and oral surgery.
Unfortunately, despite meds and dental rinses, he keeps getting swellings along his jawline this past week. This will be a huge and very unexpected expense, hence the ask. It’s not something I have time to save funds for given the worsening condition of his mouth.
Please consider helping me help him get healthy so we can find him a loving home.
