Help Benny get a service dog!

Benton is a fun and wild 2 year old who loves to cook and play outside. Benton was born a normal healthy infant. At 8 months old we were traumatized by his very first seizure. Benton's seizure was long about 45 minutes and resulted in him being intubated. Since then we have had 1-2 major seizures a month resulting in spending time in the ICU at Children's Hospital, Neurology floor, or ER stays. We have had multiple trips in ambulances and Benton has even flown in three helicopter rides so far. Bentons first couple of seizures the doctors told us were just febrile and were normal in infants. My crazy Momma heart didn't believe it. We fought for our little man and completed genetics testing. In March, His results came back stating that he has a gene mutation called SCNIA.• SCN1A told us that our Benton has epilepsy. Not just a typical form of epilepsy his seizures are hard to stop and have lasted anywhere from 5 seconds- an hour and a half. His seizure triggers are high body temperatures, illnesses, and over exertion. In June 2021 our Benton was finally diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome. We have found 3 epilepsy medications that we take twice daily that have helped spread the seizures out some, but that could change as he grows. They have been a blessing and have been able to stop his seizures at home. Benton is a tough little guy who has fought many seizures, illnesses and will continue to for the rest of his life. We have a long road ahead, but he is a fighter! Koa was gifted to us and we are really hoping to get him the correct schooling to help him become a service dog for our Benton. It will help give us more peace of mind for keeping our boy safe.
