8-year-old Bennett Smith from Bundaberg, QLD, has been directly invited to represent Australia at the World Futsal Championships in Orlando, Florida this July!
As a proud Taribelang and Gooreng Gooreng young boy and student of St John’s Lutheran Primary School, Bennett’s talent, determination, character and heart caught the attention of coaches in Spain at the United Futsal Futures Tournament in March this year and earned him a place as a GCI Australia All-Star.
Coming from humble beginnings, we're raising $15,000 to help support Bennett and one parent’s travel to the USA.
If we are fortunate enough to exceed our fundraising goal, it is Bennett’s wish to bring along his number one fan - his proud grandmother, Tina McLellan, a well-known and much-loved local from Bundaberg and significant support to Bennett and his family. Tina is regularly sighted on the sidelines, keeping score and cheering for her grandchildren. Tina's unwavering support does not go unnoticed and is most appreciated.
Any additional funds beyond this would be graciously shared among other Australian teammates to help support their travel expenses as well.
Bennett draws strength and guidance from the spirit of his old people. Staying true to himself, authentic and connected, as he continues this exciting journey. His achievements reflect not only his talent but also the strong foundation of resilience and identity that he proudly carries. Bennett remains humble, recognising that his success is collective achievement – that he stands on the shoulders of those who came before him.
This is more than a sporting event – it’s an opportunity for Bennett to run out, proudly wearing that green and gold, on the world stage, backed by his community, his culture, and his country.
The McLellan/Smith family would be deeply grateful for any contribution, big or small, to support Bennett in realising this dream, representing Australia with pride, heart and spirit.
We thank you for your support.
