We found Benji wandering alone in the Italian countryside near Oria, Puglia — starving, dehydrated, and with his tail cruelly cut off, most likely by hunters who had abandoned him. He was so weak he could barely stand.

Despite everything, Benji is incredibly gentle and loving. He leans in for cuddles and wags what’s left of his tail — just wanting safety and care.

We rushed him to the vet hospital, where blood tests showed severe malnutrition and Leishmaniosis — a serious but manageable disease if treated early. Thankfully, his organs are still healthy, giving him a real chance at recovery.

The first month of treatment is the hardest and most expensive, with daily medication, supplements, and vet visits. After that, costs drop dramatically. So far, we’ve already spent €367 on vet visits, blood tests, and initial therapy.

We’re now raising funds to cover:

Ongoing Leishmaniosis medication

Nutritional supplements (salmon oil, milk thistle, vitamins)

Follow-up blood tests and vaccines

We both work full-time and already care for other rescues, so this extra cost has been difficult. Any help — even a few euros — will go directly toward Benji’s recovery and comfort.
