Hi my name is Amber, from Yeppoon Qld, I am setting up this fundraiser for one of my absolute oldest and dearest friends Benji, we are family to eachother.
As most of you will have seen the news, Lismore in NSW is having record breaking flooding. Many many people have been caught out because you never ever expect to be going through a record breaking disaster. Literally 3 weeks ago settlement went through on Benji, Alicia and their 3yo daughter Rocket’s house. Their very first family home. They had just got a brand new kitchen put in and had spent 1 night in their forever home….Lismore has flood markers all throughout town, this family went to bed with water in their backyard only to wake 45mins later to water in their 15 foot high home. They grabbed what they could in the dark and rang SES. They terrifyingly waited to be rescued with a small child that cannot swim, in the dark. Shining a torch on her face everytime a boat went past to show there was a small child that needed taking. Finally they were taken to dry land. Benji being the person that he is, went back out on boats to rescue as many people as he could, including ripping roofs off to help elderly out of roof cavities.
Benji has been through a lot in life and lost his mother wayyyy too early, so he is very humble in knowing the important things in life. Human life.
With the chaos of buying their first home and the new kitchen they mistakenly took out the wrong insurance with no flood coverage. They have literally lost everything in the home. “It’s just stuff” Benji says but we all know that some basic stuff helps the quality of our life immensely. And their newly purchased home will need some repairs, costly repairs. A lot of people will be in this position in Lismore but hopefully have insurance. I’m setting this up for this family to get on their feet with some basics in life and repair their family home to live a nice little life in, and get the right insurance. I don’t want this horrible disaster to take them into bankruptcy and break all their beautiful dreams, they don’t deserve that.
