Benjamin’s 13-year-old son is currently fighting to recover from a devastating brain trauma caused by two bacterial infections that spread throughout his brain. The infections led to severe inflammation, multiple seizures, and extensive damage throughout his body. Recently, he underwent two back-to-back surgeries: a brain surgery to remove the bacteria and a sinus procedure to clear his nasal and sinus cavities. As a result of this illness, he lost partial mobility of his right arm, experiences weakness in the rest of his body, and has lost his ability to speak due to damage to the frontal and left hemisphere of his brain. Right now, he is recovering in intensive care at the children’s hospital, facing a long road ahead.

After his hospitalization, Benjamin’s son will need long-term rehabilitation, including physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and ongoing medical treatments. He will require access to specialized medications, home accommodations, and medical equipment designed to aid his recovery, such as wheelchairs, walkers, a hospital bed, specialized pillows, and shower chairs. Everyday items like wipes, facial tissue, hygiene products, and other over-the-counter supplies will also be essential for his comfort and care. Transportation to appointments and specialized nutrition will be critical as he works toward regaining his strength and independence.
