Hello, we are Joel and Rosa Stein and the photo you have viewed is our son, Jakob, and our Bahamian Fishing Guide, "Wasp". Benjamin "Wasp" Rolle was born and raised on Bimini Island in the Bahamas. He has lived the life only movies could depict. He knows the waters of Bimini like no other. Of course, because his youthful days were inspired by Scarface and Miami Vice... (or, were those stories written about "Wasp"?) he made and lost money. It is very hard to earn much money on his island as tourists only flock there three months out of the year. Even though he lost his leg years ago in a motorcycle accident and cannot swim, he still has a passion for the sea and all its jewels. Wasp knows the currents, cuts and channels around Bimini. He knows where all the rocks and shelves are. He is a fantastic guide, knowing all the dangers of the Bahamian waters. He has been so helpful to our family and Jakob's interest in spearfishing. We try to help support him and his family and continue to do so in ways that would not be an embarrassment to him. For several years now, Wasp has been talking about getting a new prosthetic leg, as the one he uses is quite old and worn out. It seems that these sort of things are not so obtainable as in the United States. The Bahamian health insurance does not pay for this sort of thing. The man has to travel to Nassau for several days at a time for measurement, fitting and rechecks. He has to pay the prosthetist (specialist who actually makes the leg) in cash and also for the actual new leg. Wasp estimates the costs to be around $5000, but we think he is low balling it, since we have sort of priced out what the costs are here in the USA. Meanwhile, we would like to help him procure a new prosthetic as soon as possible, and will be happy to help fund any costs over and above what is raised here. He is a good man and deserves to be able to ambulate with less difficulty. Bless any of you who volunteer some funding and thank you from our hearts.
