Help Benjamin Perez Hidalgo's Recovery Journey
Donation protected
We are raising funds for our dear friend and colleague, Benjamin Perez Hidalgo, as he undergoes treatment for a rare disease. During his recovery phase of 6-8 months, he will be unable to work. Benja is a wonderful person, musician, and an important part of the NYC, performance and teaching artist community. Please help us financially support his living expenses during his recovery phase.
Benjamin requires a bone marrow transplant due to a rare syndrome called Vexas that he has been battling for three years. It is a genetic mutation that can only be healed via bone marrow transplant. The process involves chemotherapy and will leave him immunosuppressed. When he leaves the hospital he will need 24/7 care for the first 3 months and will be unable to take public transportation or work for 6-8 months thereafter.
Over the years, Benjamin has dedicated himself to performing and teaching the cultures, traditions, and music of Latin America. Recently he has been a teaching artist and touring musician with Mexico Beyond Mariachi in their productions of Sugar Skull and Trekking Mexico. He has worked with students all over the 5 boroughs of New York City and earned a special place in many students' hearts especially within the multilingual learners and Spanish speaking community.
Benjamin has been very open about his process and remains in good spirits despite being in almost constant pain.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness in helping us reach our goal to support Benjamin. If you are unable to donate monetarily, please share this GoFundMe page widely to help maximize the impact of our collective efforts.
