Hi everyone,
My name is Bengly Anderson, and on September 22, I was disowned by my family for being transgender.
Earlier last year, I had to leave my home and family behind due to increasing hostility and pressure from them to detransition or be put on the streets. Prior to that, they had given me the family car, while still retaining the title in their name, and had graciously allowed me to keep it when I moved out. As of now, the cat is out of the bag, and they’ve followed through with their ultimatum and taken the car back.
To give some background: in early September 2025, my car’s gas tank cracked, and its fuel lines needed replacement, so I took it to a mechanic for repairs. While trying to resolve the question of the hefty repair cost, it became unavoidable to meet my parents in person. During that meeting, I was forcibly outed, promptly disowned, and threatened with financial ruin and repossession of the vehicle.
When I went to pick up the car from the mechanic to comply with returning it to the title holder, the shop had lost the vehicle, with no record of where it had been parked. A few days later, it was located: stolen, completely totaled, and impounded by the city. Everything inside it was gone, including my tools, convention table setups, and business supplies.
I am now out of a family, a car, and quite a bit of cash. I’ve been scrambling to manage the financial and emotional fallout while trying to keep my small art business alive. To say the ground has been ripped out from under me would be putting it mildly. Losing both my family and my only means of transport has pushed me to my limit, mentally and financially.
I am disabled and live in a car-dependent city. My job requires me to have a vehicle to haul merchandise, move inventory, transport displays, and travel between the events I vend at. A car is non-negotiable. The car market is expensive, and emergency spending has already strained my bank accounts and credit.
My best path forward is to raise a larger down payment so I can finance a safe, reliable vehicle with manageable payments. I’m looking at a Subaru Forester or something similar, sturdy, with good cargo capacity, yet still small enough to park in the city.
I’ll post updates and receipts so you can see exactly how funds are used. If you can donate or share this campaign, it would mean more than I can express. I’m exhausted and at my wits’ end, but I’m doing everything I can to stay hopeful and keep my work going.
Here’s an outline of what your help will cover:
Primary Goal
• Vehicle down payment: $10,000 minimum ($12,000+ preferred) to qualify for a reliable car and reasonable payments.
Required Purchase Costs and Setup
• Taxes, title, registration, and dealer fees: $1,500–$2,500
• First month of insurance and any reinstatement fees: $300–$600
Work Essentials for Conventions
• Roof rack and cargo net for load-out: $120
• All-weather cargo mats and organizers to protect inventory: $150
• Dash cam and wheel locks for security: $120–$200
• Replace small booth tools and supplies that were lost or damaged: $200–$400
If this campaign goes beyond immediate needs, any extra funds will go toward monthly insurance, gas, basic maintenance, and paying down emergency debt created by the theft and loss.
TL;DR
• Disowned by family after coming out as transgender.
• Left my car at a mechanic; when I went to pick it up, it was gone. Found stolen, totaled, and impounded, then scrapped by the title holder.
• I run a small art business that depends on a reliable car, and I live in a car-dependent city with a disability.
• I need help with a car down payment and startup costs to get back on the road, plus a few essential business and living expenses to stabilize.
• Goal: Down payment $10,000–$12,000+, plus initial fees and essentials listed above. Any amount helps. Sharing helps too.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’re not in a position to donate, sharing this campaign is a huge help. Please pass it along to friends, coworkers, community groups, Discord servers, or social media.
Even small donations help cover tangible needs like inspection fees, gas, or the first month of insurance. Your support gets me one step closer to a safe car and the ability to keep my business running.
Take care, and thank you again.
