Since middle school, my dream has been to attend the University of Oklahoma (OU); and get a degree in sports medicine. Last year, that dream came true when I was accepted and attended the fall 2024 semester. As a Black student, being admitted to a predominately white institution felt surreal. The percentage of Black students on campus is small, so being able to contribute to making impacts in the black community at OU felt fulfilling.
Unfortunately, I was no longer able to cover my tuition. This led me to drop out after my first semester and attend a more affordable school. My goal is to transfer back to OU and start the fall 2025 semester. However, I face a financial hurdle: I need to clear my outstanding balance before the term begins, and only have till June. I'm working almost every day to pay it off myself, while also trying to get my nurse's aide license. Balancing work, studies, and trying to save up is definitely a challenge, but I'm determined to make it back to OU.
