Ben is an 18-year-old recent graduate—one of the brightest, kindest, and most resilient young men I’ve had the privilege to work with in 30 years of education. Just weeks away from starting college on a district scholarship, his life was turned upside down through no fault of his own.

Ben, along with his younger siblings (ages 14 and 9), were all born in the United States and have been integral members of our school community. His mother, their sole guardian, was recently detained due to immigration issues, and now these three children are left in heartbreaking uncertainty.

Ben is suddenly thrust into a role no teenager should have to face—becoming the sole caregiver for his younger brother and sister. In a recent conversation, he said something that broke my heart: “I feel like a kid without a country.”

Despite all of this, Ben remains determined. He has spent years volunteering at events for children with cancer, participating in school clubs, and excelling academically. He is a model student, a caring brother, and a young man who simply wants to keep his family together and pursue his dreams of higher education.

But right now, he can’t do it alone.

We are hoping to raise $25,000 to help cover rent, food, utilities, school supplies, and other essentials for Ben and his siblings, as well as to support Ben in beginning college without giving up on his dreams. He is also seeking help in navigating legal support for his mom, all of which is overwhelming for him.
