My name is Ben, and I’ve always tried to do right by my family, even when life has thrown challenge after challenge my way. Over the past decade, I’ve faced more ups and downs than I can count, but I’ve never given up. Right now, things are as tough as they’ve ever been. I’m living in Indiana with my two sons, Nigel (26) and Austin (21). We moved here from California to help my daughter and her family, but after a recent family loss, circumstances changed. Austin had to stay behind with us, and now the three of us are doing our best to make ends meet far from where we started.

All three of us are currently unemployed and searching for work every day. Our biggest struggles right now are covering rent, groceries, utilities, and transportation. We’ve managed to pay for this month’s rent, but our resources are almost gone. If we can’t find a way to cover next month’s expenses, we’re at risk of losing our apartment and becoming homeless. Despite everything, we’re determined to stay together and keep moving forward. California is no longer an option for us—it’s simply too expensive—and we want to build a stable life here in Indiana.
