Help Ben Recover and Return to Teaching

On Saturday night, June 7th, Ben’s life changed in an instant. While riding his bike home from his girlfriend’s house, Ben was struck by a motorist at the intersection of E 53rd 1/2 Street and Airport in Austin. The driver fled the scene, leaving Ben injured and alone in the street until a kind witness stopped to help and called 911.

Ben suffered a badly injured shoulder, a concussion, and required multiple staples in his head. He is currently awaiting MRI results and may need surgery on his left shoulder.

While his physical injuries are serious, the emotional and financial toll is just as serious. Ben is a passionate high school teacher in our local public school district. Like many educators, he works a second job in the service industry to make ends meet. Because of his injuries, Ben has already missed several shifts at his second job, adding to the financial strain. On top of this, his cell phone was destroyed in the accident, and his bicycle was rendered inoperable.
