On what began as an ordinary evening in Boulder City, NV, tragedy struck without warning.

A freak grease fire in the kitchen of Ben Cornish’s mobile home quickly spiraled out of control, engulfing the entire structure in flames within minutes. Ben and his girlfriend Jade were inside when the fire broke out. The thick smoke and searing heat gave them only seconds to react. They barely escaped with their lives—wearing nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

The home is a total loss.

Everything Ben and Jade owned—clothing, personal items, memories, photographs, tools, furniture, and essentials—is gone. The fire took more than possessions, though. It also claimed the life of one of Ben’s beloved dogs, Sky. Ben had two dogs, Sky and Jasper. While Jasper survived, Sky tragically did not make it out. Sky was more than a pet—she was a companion, a protector, and a part of the family. Her loss has left a deep wound on both Ben and Jade’s hearts.

Ben now faces the crushing aftermath of this sudden and traumatic event. Not only is he left without a home, but he must now navigate the painful and costly process of demolishing what remains of the burnt structure, cleaning up the property, and attempting to rebuild from nothing.
