Our neighborhood was recently shaken by a distressing incident involving a longtime and cherished member of our community. A dedicated nanny whom many of us have known for years as a friendly, familiar presence walking through Diamond Heights and caring deeply for the family she works with.
On Friday morning, she was wrongfully detained by federal immigration enforcement on her way to work in what became a terrifying and confusing experience for her and those who care about her. She was transported in chains with little food or water and denied basic dignity and privacy while detained. After being held in San Francisco, she was transported 5 hours away and abruptly released without explanation or support, until a volunteer from the Rapid Response Network helped her get safely to a hotel.
While we are keeping her name private to respect her and her family’s wishes, we know she has been a steady and beloved part of our community for a long time. She now needs support as she navigates the legal and emotional challenges ahead. Please join us in showing our care and solidarity by contributing whatever you can to help cover legal expenses, living costs, and any other needs that arise during this difficult time. Every contribution, large or small, will mean so much to her as she navigates the next steps.
With gratitude,
Diamond Heights Neighbors
2/17/26 Update. The woman at the heart of this fundraiser asked us to share these words:
Dear Friends,
I am deeply touched by your generosity and kindness. After such a frightening and painful experience, your support and love mean more to me than I can fully express. Knowing that I am not alone during this incredibly difficult time gives me strength and hope.
Your contributions are helping me begin to recover and move forward after this horrible event. But beyond the financial help, it’s your compassion that is truly carrying me through. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with me.
