My name is Jessica , we are starting a go fund me for our sweet pup Belle who is 4.

Belle is the sweetest girl who loves hikes , playing fetch and cuddling with one of us or her cat abyss . I have fibromyalgia and an autoimmune disease. When I have hard days Belle stays by my side keeping me company.

Belle became very sick in September 2024. She was lethargic, not eating but drinking a lot of water . I took her to our wonderful vet Dr.Kat she ran a bunch of tests but we couldn’t figure out what was going on with Belle . Our vet sent us to the emergency vet . We ran more tests and waited for results . While waiting Belle had a seizure at home with me that lasted a little over 5 minutes. The seizure was what lead us to find out that Belle was having liver failure. We had a CT done and it showed Belle has a portosystomatic liver shunt . It is a birth defect that didn’t present its self until almost age 4 . We immediately put Belle on medication to help her liver function and a special diet .

we meet with a surgeon at the emergency vet hospital in San Rafael who explained in great detail the surgery Belle needs .

the cost of the surgery is $10-12k

unfortunately I lost my job due to having to take time off to take Belle to the hospital and specialist . So we have had to put off the surgery.

My conversation with the surgeon revealed that unfortunately Belle can only be on the medication for her liver shunt for so long before it causes another health issue (like gall bladder stones )that will be estimated around 8-10k.

only one third of dogs treated with medicine alone will live a relatively long live . I have noticed a change in Belle and I’m hoping to get the surgery done in the next couple months .

we just want our sweet girl to be back to her happy going self who isn’t struggling .
