Help Belinda's Family Secure a Safe Home

My name is Belinda, I am a single parent/ grandparent and I’m raising funds to help my family—my 16-year-old son, my 10-year-old grandson, and my 4-year-old granddaughter—find a safe and stable place to live and get a reliable car. Over the past year, we’ve faced a series of setbacks, starting with my job loss due to illness and hospitalization, poor credit, eviction, bankruptcy, car accident, and a repossession. These challenges have made it nearly impossible for us to secure housing, we have been homeless since March and lost our car which was means of transportation, and often shelter, two days before Mother’s Day.

Soon we will be without shelter again, but this time I don’t have a car for us to live in, or enough money for us to stay in a hotel.

On top of this, we are at risk of losing everything we own that is in storage.

I’ve been to agency after agency repeatedly asking for assistance with disappointing outcomes.

I’ve paid non refundable fees for countless rental applications only to be denied. Credit score not high enough. I don’t make 3-4 times the amount in rent per month. I have a bankruptcy. I have an eviction. They don’t accept security deposit assistance. The Affordable housing places that I went to has waiting list that are 3- 6 years long!

I feel so broken, and it’s getting harder to mask all of this struggle from these kids, who just need to be kids.

My granddaughter has special needs—she’s been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and requires leg braces and continuous physical therapy. My autistic son, who was once non verbal, is a thriving teenager and honors student at his highly esteemed high school. My grandson is an emotional & creative boy, who uses his wonderful artistic talent and therapy to overcome a history of trauma. I am a working woman who battles clinical depression, physical limitations, chronic pain and health issues. I am doing my very best to do right by these children by giving them not only love, but normalcy, stability, and security.

We’re hoping to move into a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home—whether it’s an apartment, house, or townhouse —so everyone has enough space and stability. Having a reliable car is also essential for getting my family to work, school, therapy, and doctor appointments. With the school year approaching and our current situation uncertain, we need to secure both housing and transportation as soon as possible.
