Kala recently passed in her sleep, last Saturday morning on 7/5, after a very difficult yet brave fight, with GI Lymphoma. It was the primary cause of Kala's health decline this year and it was extremely aggressive. The donations received here all went to her exam fees and medications leading up Kala's death, to allow her more time to live without pain, while still able to be herself.
Due to the time sensitive window of finalizing arrangements for Kala's cremation, I cannot go into all the details answering questions, which some of you may have right now. And while I wish to share in the grieving of Kala Bear, I am doing everything I can not to lose my mind while managing severe neurological disabilities and, have our last rites fulfilled.
What's urgently needed right now this morning through end of today, is to have at least $300 for Kala's cremation fees. I am scrambling right now to call humane societies and anyone I know to try and contribute. Any extra funds would go to custom keepsakes and the gas to cover the voyage so I may say goodbye to her one last time, witness her cremation and receive her ashes.
Please please please help. It's 8am and I am about to speak with the cremation caretakers and my local vet clinic. Please email [email redacted] if you are willing to call the company and use your own card to help reach this goal, for a one time partial or full charge. Again, this is time sensitive due the timing of Kala's death and silly capitalist time constraints.
Thank you to everyone who has helped relieve some of the painful financial burden that came with trying to relieve Kala and, offer her the best care possible towards the end. Her treatment was expensive and euthanasia was one of the next options. Dying in one's sleep is one of the more peaceful ways to go, and I was relieved of not having to euthanize her in order to end her suffering. But it still hurts deeply and with no permanent home to bury her as a Black being in asylum here in Vermont, cremation is the best option for us to remain united as we always wished to be.
Again, thank you.
Love, Belinda and Kala
Greetings! My name is Dakin and I'm collecting emergency funds on behalf of my dear friend, Belinda (she/he/them) and her sweet cat, Kala (kah-lah).
Sadly, Kala recently became very sick, vomiting blood repeatedly, unable to eat adequately, and losing weight. After a recent visit to the vet, it has become clear that Kala needs urgent medical care for their stomach and teeth. Belinda is shattered trying to manage Kala's pain and suffering, while scrambling to find money to get this wonderful being the time sensitive care she needs.
Belinda rescued and adopted Kala as a 5-week-old kitten, and they have been a constant in each other's lives for 15 years. Their wellbeing is deeply intertwined, and they give each other comfort, companionship and joy. Kala's vet has prioritized Kala for scheduling, so it comes down to covering costs. It would be terrible to lose Kala when she's still showing signs of viability, like a desire to be social, play and be outside. She's too weak for that at the moment.
Among the many procedures Kala needs, some of the more expensive ones include an abdominal ultrasound ($711), dental treatment w/ tooth extractions ($1328), hospitalization fees, medications, follow-up care for osteoarthritis, Rx foods and litter ($654).
Belinda and Kala have struggled with housing displacement and poverty together, uniting them through struggles while adding to the deterioration of their health. Having experienced 22 years of racism--overlapping with queer erasure in Vermont--while self-managing sustained disabilities, it makes paying the total cost of $2693 for Kala unrealistic for Belinda alone. I know this is such a hard time for many to give financially, but after Belinda made every possible attempt to finance Kala's procedures, it comes down to community to help make this happen. Please donate so Kala can live longer, and they can have more time together.
