Hi, my name is Beki. I first traveled to Duncans, Trelawny in Jamaica in January of 2024. Immediately, my friends and I were welcomed into the community there, especially on the fisherman’s beach, with open arms and the warmest hospitality. Little did I know when booking and taking that trip, that I would fall in love, not only with this beautiful island nation, but with my now husband.
Hurricane Melissa tore through our community as a Category 4 hurricane on Tuesday, October 28th. Many roofs were torn away (including our own), and many homes were flattened completely. Locally owned and run businesses, like the iconic Leroy’s bar which sat on the waterfront, were reduced to rubble. Trees are down everywhere, blocking roads. Utility poles were knocked down or snapped in two. There is no running water. Only those with a satellite connection are able to reach out to loved ones.
It may be months before public utilities are back up and running. In the meantime, the people of Duncans must try to begin rebuilding.
I am raising funds in order to send relief supplies to my community there. Non-perishable food, water, hygiene products, hopefully a generator, and construction supplies like tools, nails, tarps, etc.
Please consider helping me begin to rebuild Duncans. Thank you in advance for any assistance!
