Help Beekeeper Rebuild After Wildfire Devastation in Greece

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Panagiotis. I'm 37 years old, and together with my wife and our 2-year-old son, I spend much of my time on a beautiful island in Greece called Chios. For over a decade, I’ve dedicated my life to something I love deeply — beekeeping.

What started as a small hobby in my backyard, driven by a love for nature and bees, slowly grew into my full-time profession. I'm completely self-taught. Through years of hard work, sacrifice, and care, I grew from 1 hive to 450. I began exporting my honey from Greece to the USA, selling it personally at local markets, and even received recognition — my honey was awarded three times at the Great Taste Awards in London.

I poured everything into producing high-quality, healthy, premium honey that I could be proud of.

But on a single devastating night, that dream was nearly destroyed.

A wildfire on the island of Chios swept through one of my main beeyards, killing 350 hives. Only 100 remain at another beeyard — and they’re still at risk as the fire continues to spread.

This isn’t just my livelihood — it’s my life’s work. It supports my family, yes, but it also connects me to the land, the bees, and the community. Watching the bees pollinate our island and seeing people enjoy the fruits of their labor has always brought me purpose and pride.

Now, I’m asking for help to rebuild what took me over a decade to create.

The financial loss is enormous. I didn’t just lose bees. I lost the hive boxes, beeswax, frames, tools, and harvested honey — everything. Replacing just the wooden two-story hive boxes alone will cost €20,000. That doesn't include:

Beeswax for frames

Queen bees

Equipment to paint and preserve the new boxes

Basic tools and materials to restart operations

I want to rebuild — not just for myself, but for my family, the bees, and for the land that depends on them.

If you can donate, even a small amount, it will help me take a step toward recovery. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your friends, family, or community.

Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for helping me restore something that can never truly be replaced, but that I refuse to give up on.

With gratitude,
Panagiotis
