Help a Furloughed Teacher & Artist to Move

Donation protected
UPDATE: While no longer homeless, Bee is still furloughed & was ultimately denied unemployment benefits due to having been a teacher at a religious school. We are raising an additional $3,300 to help Bee transition into creating sustainable income from art.(Photo of Bee at home.)

In extending her space & artistic practice to align with her goals, Bee's been shopping her work to various art institutions-and galleries are now requesting large canvas & abstract sculpture work by her.

While Bee has completed a few pieces of large scale work recently, she can’t afford to continue to do so with the income from print sales. $3,300 will allow Bee to secure a future where she is able to cover the costs of her necessities (food, clothing, and shelter).

Thank you to every donor in advance, your generosity is much appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

Bee is an artist and teacher who has struggled with homelessness on and off for her entire life. In 2017, she lost her home and art studio after the building she rented two units in was infested with vermin and the owners refused to fix the issue. She & a number of other tenants were evicted for refusing to pay rent until the owners fixed the issue-which they never addressed aside from deeming extermination of the building an "unnecessary cost." After being evicted, she couch surfed & subleased until February of 2020, when she started a teaching job and was able to move in with roommates.

Unfortunately, four months into teaching, she was furloughed due to Covid-19. It’s been four months since she was furloughed and she still has not been approved for unemployment OR been able to secure employment elsewhere. Due to a lack of steady income, Bee has not been able to pay her share of rent at her home or to rent an art studio-which has severely impacted her artistic practice as she does not have the space to work on art at her current home.

Her goal is to raise enough funds to move into a home that allows for her to both live comfortably and have the space needed to work on her art.

Currently, Bee is looking for a 2-bedroom home that’ll allow for her to have an in-home art studio so that she has space to create art to sell, which would provide her with a means of income until she’s able to safely return to her teaching job.

She's considering properties with monthly rent costs of $800 and estimated monthly utilities costs of $500-overall living costs that will be well within her budget once she's able to safely return to teaching. To ensure she’s got a proper amount saved for at least 6 months, she’s asking for $7800 in donations to help reach her goal.

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to donate to help Bee afford a comfortable home and workspace again!
