On Sunday, February 1st, Becky’s neighbor had a significant fire that started in their garage. Becky lives in a townhouse, and her living room shares a wall with her neighbor’s garage. While she didn’t sustain any fire damage to the inside of her unit, she did have substantial smoke damage.
Becky will be out of her townhouse for a few months while the cleaning company removes every item from her home to clean and deodorize. Her entire unit will be cleaned, flooring will need to be replaced, and the walls will need to be sealed and then painted.
Becky (and Sheldon) are very fortunate to be living with our parents right now but will have several unanticipated costs related to the fire:
- $1,000 insurance deductible
- Becky started a new job in October and doesn’t have PTO built up; needed to take 2 days off unpaid due to suffering smoke inhalation that landed her in the ER the night of the fire
- Insurance will not cover the full replacement value of personal items (furniture, appliances, etc.) that she purchased 23 years ago when she bought her townhouse
Please help us give Becky some peace of mind in the aftermath of this stressful and scary event. Any funds in excess of Becky’s needs will be given to the Hugo Firefighter’s Relief Association.
