Becky isn’t just fighting cancer—she’s enduring one of the rarest and most aggressive kinds: Stage 4 appendix cancer. The treatments are harsh, the surgeries brutal, and yet her spirit refuses to break. She’s a warrior with an undeniable lust for life and an unwavering will to stay here with those who love her.
We are not people who ask easily—we’ve always lived to serve and support others. But now, we find ourselves needing help from our “village” once more. Fighting a rare disease like this takes more than courage—it takes financial resources we simply don’t have. Every donation, big or small, will go directly toward Becky’s treatments, surgeries, recovery, and care.
If you’re unable to help financially, we ask from the bottom of our hearts: please keep Becky in your prayers. Pray that she gets more time here on this earth. I’ll admit it—I’m selfish. I want more days, more memories, more laughter with the love of my life. I want our lives back.
Thank you for your love, your prayers, your kindness, and your support. We feel it all. God bless each and every one of you.
With love and gratitude,
Matt
Hello friends, my name is Mimi, and I am asking for your help in raising funds for my longtime best friend, Becky. We have been close friends for over 25 years. We worked together in the health field and trained together to run several marathons and half marathons. She has always been very healthy and wellness focused, as well as being very spiritual and giving and supportive of others. She was newly married to her soulmate, Matt, New Years Eve of 2020, and moved away from me shortly after in the summer 2023. Her husband Matt has always been a brave and honorable servant to our country as he volunteered to serve as a contractor in the wars in Afganistan, Iraq, and was a firefighter at ground zero during the 9/11 attacks. He now is now over the fire protection at a nuclear facility in Port St. Lucie FL. He has always selflessly sacrificed and faced a great deal of adversity on behalf of our country and others, he now faces the biggest battle of his life. Soon after moving away from his family and support groups to take the job in Port St. Lucie, he was diagnosed with diabetes and AFIB. No sooner than he was able to absorb this diagnosis and adapt to a drastic change in his daily routine, his wife Becky was diagnosed with a rare high-grade stage 4 appendix cancer. Unfortunately, Becky is 1 in 2 million of the people who get this rare type of cancer. As benign as appendix cancer may sound, it is incurable and terminal due to the aggressive nature of how it spreads. There are treatments and surgeries that can improve her quantity and quality of life. Insurance covers a small portion of the surgeries and some treatments, however, many of the treatments are considered experimental and are not covered at all. The physical and mental anguish this new family has endured is heroic. Matt and Becky have decided to fight this with everything they have. They do not have family or friends where they live since they recently moved there, although Becky's elderly mother has moved in from Arizona to try and help.
Other than taking advice from the doctors, there is little that can be done to alleviate their fear and anxiety. We do think that with your help, we can relieve some of the financial burdens from them as their life savings has been decimated. As Matt and Becky continue to try and hold their mentality and finances in the road thru this, Matt is missing a good bit of work, and will be taking FMLA which is unpaid in order to take care of Becky and to take care of elderly mother in laws needs to appointments and other errands. Becky is being a trooper by taking the aggressive actions the doctors have recommended while continuing to work remotely for as long as she can. She has had one surgery and 10 rounds of chemotherapy so far. They have just suspended her intravenous chemo in favor of a very aggressive and risky surgical chemo treatment in mid-Janurary. Matt is being a trooper by being fully committed to her well-being and possible recovery. He is also being very disciplined with his conditions to ensure he is healthy enough to care for Becky and her elderly mother.
Will you please be a trooper and donate any amount possible to help these two sweet and deserving people cover these costs? Your gifts, prayers, and shares will do wonders to help ease the hardships they now face and we will be forever grateful. Always giving, they would never ask for any help on their own. It’s out of love and our close friendship that I ask for your help.
