For the past 3 years, my best friend, Becky, has been fighting a battle that no one should have to face alone. What started as health concerns has turned into a constant, overwhelming struggle for answers, relief and simply making it through each day. She has been diagnosed with multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms, seizures, uncontrollable hypertension, hemiplegic migraines and severe vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Despite seeing countless doctors, no one has been able to tell her why this is happening.
And still…she keeps going.
Through the fear, the pain and the exhaustion, Becky continues to work full-time and take care of her family. She is a devoted mom to three children and a loving grandmother to two precious grandbabies who are her entire world. But the reality of her illness is taking more and more from her. Hospital stays and medical emergencies have forced her to miss work, draining every bit of her PTO. Now, when her body gives out or she needs care, she has no choice but to go without pay.
She has been given the chance at answers through the Mayo Clinic – something we are all holding onto with hope. But getting there comes with costs she simply cannot carry alone; travel, lodging, medical bills and the basic expenses of keeping her home running while she is unable to work.
What makes this even more heartbreaking is how much of her life has been taken from her. Becky is constantly exhausted. She struggles with brain fog, memory loss and painful swelling that makes it difficult to breathe. The medications haven’t brought relief. And the seizures…they come without warning. She lives in fear of when the next one will hit.
Because of this, she can’t safely take her kids or grandbabies out. Imagine loving you family with everything you have – but being too afraid to leave the house with them. That’s the reality she is living every day.
Becky is strong, but she is also exhausted. She is doing everything she can, and now she needs help.
If you can give, share or even just keep her in your prayers, it would mean more than words can ever express. Every bit of support brings her one step closer to answers, relief and hopefully getting back pieces of her life.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for caring.
