October 2025 update
Becky received her latest scan results this week, which sadly showed some progression. While there are no new nodules in her lungs, the existing ones have grown slightly, and the spots on her liver have also increased in size, with a new one appearing.
Paid-for chemotherapy is being recommended again, as the free NHS versions unfortunately don’t work on Becky’s type of cancer. This treatment has been effective for her before, and the GoFundMe makes it possible for her to access it — something she and her family are deeply grateful for.
On top of her own battle, Becky is also facing heartbreaking personal challenges. She lost her mum to PSP, a rare form of Parkinson’s disease that presents like motor neuron disease, after caring for her through her decline — all while supporting her dad, who has dementia. She is now preparing to bury her mum on the 13th of November, with chemotherapy due to start the week before.
After 18 months away from work, Becky had recently managed to return on a phased basis, showing incredible strength and determination despite lasting effects from treatment, including nerve damage. She wanted to show her children the importance of resilience and hard work — but with chemotherapy restarting, she’ll once again need to step back to focus on her health.
This should be a time in Becky’s life when she is financially stable, focused on building her career, and enjoying watching her youngest thrive in high school. Instead, she faces the heavy financial burden that comes with cancer — paying for vital treatment that gives her the best chance of more time with her family.
Becky also continues to carry the day-to-day responsibilities of caring for her children largely on her own, with little support. Balancing their needs alongside her health challenges makes an already difficult situation even harder, yet she does it all with grace and strength.
Despite everything, Becky continues to show remarkable courage, love, and determination — inspiring everyone around her. Thank you to everyone who has supported her so far; your kindness truly helps her keep fighting.
Prior update - Thank you to each and every person who has donated so far. Becky is overwhelmed as are her children with how loved they all are. They can not thank family, friends and the public enough. It’s been such a difficult journey not just for Becky but the boys too as they have really struggled watching their mum go through this difficult journey. Becky has hated that for them, especially as she can’t assure them everything will be ok.
Thank you all so much from the bottom of our heart
Initial post
It is with a heavy heart I set up this page. I am asking for help to save the life of my beautiful, kind and caring friend Becky who has stage 4 cancer in multiple organs. To support her and her family in this difficult time.
Becky is a wonderful human, she’s a NHS auxiliary nurse, best friend and most importantly a single mum to 3 beautiful boys, Bec is only 40, doesn't smoke or drink and lives a healthy life style. Up until last year she had no health conditions then at 39 was diagnosed with bowel cancer, she had life changing surgery of having a permanent colostomy bag and if that was not hard enough now she's found out it has metastasised and she as 4 spots between both her lungs and 4 spots on her liver (stage 4 cancer).
Becky has been advised she needs procedures and drugs that are supplied by the NHS but not funded by them despite their specialist consultants identifying this will give her the best chance of survival.
Becky was very unlucky to be unsuitable for lung surgery because of the location of the cancer spots so her only option will be ablation surgery to the lungs and the NHS will only fund three spots, and Becky has 4, plus she's doesn’t have the right postcode to receive this treatment which is only currently catering for Newport health board patients. Her first application has already been declined by the NHS to fund. I know this seems hard to believe so we will be transparent and post all the receipts of medical cost. I wasn’t sure what sort of goal to set as the reality is we will probably need more as surgery is expensive and they believe more spots will pop up as the type of cancer Becky has. Then there's the medication, The one drug her consultant has recommended will be £302 plus £30 admin fees every 2 weeks. This is to increase the chance of chemo working. The first lot Becky had never worked so obviously she will be super keen to increase her chances this time. It’s really heart breaking at 40 she is planning her funeral and where her children will go while trying to find extra cash to give herself the best chance of being there for them into their adult years. All while going down to half pay in work which will soon be no pay.
The chemo is a holding measure while the NHS make decisions on what to treat first and if they can get funding for it. They are hoping to operate on the liver first which will be provided by the NHS, depending on how the chemo reacts this time to the cancer.
The receipt from the 1st instalment to velindre the Cardiff NHS cancer hospital is attached as so many people find it hard to believe that NHS treatment is not free for cancer if you are unlucky enough not to be suitable for the free treatments which is Becky’s case.
Its so incredibly sad that even after devoting 20 years of her life to caring for patients in the NHS, worked through out the pandemic putting herself and her family at risk for others she is unable to access these life saving treatments, all down to cost and postcode. There were free drugs and surgeries available, but she's not genetically compatible for those. Becky is undergoing chemotherapy as a holding measure, but the reality is, she will likely have to self fund some of this treatment and is currently doing so.
This is where you good people come in
Becky is such a private and independent individual, so much so that many still do not know about her ongoing treatment or struggles.
Becky's immediate family are unable to help support due to their health (Dad has dementia and mother who own terminal diagnosis) and as a single mum to 3 and NHS worker, she's doesn't have surplus funds to do what's needed to give her the best possible outcome. Becky will be absolutely mortified to ask for support, but as a mother Becky’s priority is to live to be around for her three boys as long as possible.
So please put your hand in your pocket, even the smallest donations will be appreciated and will help. Let’s help Becky kick this cancers arse.
Keep an eye out for fundraising event too.
