Help Beckie Help Dennis
Donation protected
Hey y'all. I'm Rachel. I am Beckie's daughter and Dennis' stepdaughter. Unfortunately last month dennis became very ill while at home and once he was agreeable to be taken to the hospital via EMS he was found to be quite ill. Initially diagnosed with DKA, then soon after found his gallbladder was not functioning. What is usually a simple and routine procedure initially went as planned. It was after the procedure where almost everything else has gone wrong. After the gall bladder removal he then experienced severe debilitating pain from a leak around where the gall bladder was removed. This allowed bile to leak into his abdomen freely and the acidic excretion began to damage his other organs. Once they were able a drain tube was placed to help drain that bile out of his abdomen. However, it wasn't as effective as they had hoped, so another drain tube was then placed. After that, his kidneys stopped functioning and he began to fill up with fluid. First his lung filled up an already existent pleural effusion making it very hard for him to breathe and oxygenate. He was put on machines like high flows and bipaps to help keep his oxygenation at acceptable levels shortly after he also had a chest tube to help with the ever recurring fluid fill up. Now that his kidneys aren't working he is having dialysis every other day to keep the fluid at bay. All the while my mom, Beckie, has been making the trip to and from her home to the hospital daily as to help advocate for his care, since a lot of the time he is very lethargic and disoriented and cannot verbalize his own needs or care for himself due to his encephalopathy from the kidney failure. She returns home in the evenings to care for thier plethora of beloved goats, dogs and cats and to try to get a few moments of time for her own sanity. Having someone in the hospital who is very acutely ill is time consuming and takes a large toll on the financial aspect as well. Dennis is expected to be in the hospital quite some time then he will need to go to a long term rehab facility to build his strength so that he can return home.
These trips to and from while trying to keep up with or pay someone to help woth the animal as drained them both mentally and financially. We hope that yall would be kind enough to help make sure that mom can continue to make the daily trek to and from and perhaps even have enough for a coffee that is so well deserved from time to time. All donations will go toward travel expenses, food, medical and utility bills while Dennis is fighting to return home and she's fighting to get him there.
