Who am I?
My name is Beck.
I am a disabled worker, researcher and creative practitioner who cares deeply about fairness, accessibility and dignity in the workplace.
I am currently pursuing an Employment Tribunal claim relating to my former employment. During my time at work, I repeatedly tried to do the right thing — disclosing my disabilities, asking for support, and continuing to work despite increasing challenges. Instead, the situation escalated in ways that had a serious impact on my health, financial stability and ability to continue in my role.
I am now navigating this legal process largely as a litigant in person, preparing and presenting my case against a far more resourced organisation. I have spent many months gathering evidence and documentation to pursue this claim responsibly through the Tribunal process.
What happened
During my employment I repeatedly disclosed my disabilities and sought appropriate support so that I could continue working effectively.
Instead of receiving the support I hoped for, the situation escalated into a series of events that ultimately led to my leaving my role and pursuing an Employment Tribunal claim.
At the same time, I was dealing with a deeply difficult personal situation involving domestic abuse and fraud by someone I trusted. During this period, I did not feel adequately supported in the workplace while trying to manage both my safety and my health.
This had a significant impact on my wellbeing and stability at an already vulnerable time.
A recent and difficult development
Alongside this legal process, I have recently received devastating medical news.
In 2015, I experienced a subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by a brain aneurysm. Since then, I have worked incredibly hard to rebuild my life and have gone on to achieve a great deal, both personally and professionally.
I have now been told that the aneurysm has grown. This has serious implications for my health and my ability to continue working. I am currently undergoing further medical investigation to determine the next steps.
The impact of ongoing stress is a real concern, and continuing to manage a complex legal case without support is becoming increasingly difficult.
Why I am asking for help
Although Employment Tribunals do not charge issue fees, the reality is that accessing justice still comes with real costs.
These include obtaining specialist legal advice, preparing tribunal documents, managing evidence, and seeking professional support for key hearings.
Because legal costs are not usually recoverable in the Employment Tribunal system, even successful claimants must fund their own legal support.
Due to the impact of these events on my health and ability to work, I am currently reliant on Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment (PIP). This means I do not have the financial capacity to fund the legal support needed to pursue this case alone.
At a time when my health is uncertain and my ability to work may be affected, meeting these costs alone is no longer realistic.
What your support will do
Funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards essential legal costs, including:
- independent employment law advice
- review of evidence and tribunal documents
- preparation for hearings
- targeted legal representation at key stages of the case
Reaching the first milestone will allow me to obtain independent legal advice on the strength of my claim and prepare properly for upcoming stages.
Why this matters
Employment disputes between individuals and large organisations often involve a significant imbalance of resources.
Your support helps level the playing field and ensures that my case can be properly heard and fairly examined.
This campaign is not about profit or compensation - it is about being able to access justice safely and responsibly at a time when I am dealing with significant personal and health challenges.
Thank you
If you are able to donate, even a small contribution genuinely helps move this process forward.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign can make a real difference by helping it reach others.
I am doing everything I can to continue, but I cannot do this alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer.
