Hi I am Cindy, I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and it was found to be a genetic mutation BRCA 2 so it is now affecting my family.

My sister Bec has decided I am the coolest big sister ever that she wanted to take my mutant genes and have BRCA2 like me. She is now 70% more likely to develop breast cancer compared to the 12.5% of non mutants.

Bec is being super proactive and has already had a oophorectomy (paid for privately) and is now scheduled for a preventative bilateral mastectomy at the end of August (also privately). Unfortunately, private is the only option without the years of wait lists, as the public system is already working through those with cancer.

I know personally how difficult it is to have cancer and the financial strain it puts on families especially single mummas like we both are.

I feel like it's even harder for Bec because she is in the gap of being a genetic mutant with higher chance of developing breast cancer without actually having breast cancer. There is a huge gap in the system with no support. Breast health nurses help cancer, most charities help cancer but there is no support for those who have the gene mutation.
