This past November and December, I lost both my Mom and my Stepdad. My sister and I were at their home, working to get everything ready for sale, when something unexpected happened. My little dog, Beaux, was out playing with their dogs in the backyard. Suddenly, two neighbor dogs who often run free came up to the fence, and all the dogs started barking and lunging at each other. In the chaos, I heard a yelp. It was Beaux—he had blood running from his left eye. We’re not sure exactly what happened, but it seems he hit a piece of metal or a stick on the fence.
We rushed him to the emergency vet, who told us his eye had been ruptured. The estimate for surgery was far more than I could afford. The vet was able to put a couple of sutures in Beaux’s eyelids to protect his eye for a few days while I searched for a more affordable option. After many calls, I finally found a vet who could do the surgery for much less. Beaux had his surgery on Tuesday, and I’m so relieved that he’s adjusting well, even with only one eye and the dreaded cone of shame.
The emergency vet visit alone was a significant expense, and I haven’t been able to work since the second week of January. My financial situation is tighter than ever. I’m embarrassed to ask for help, especially since so many of you supported me when I was trying to save my last baby, but I have to. Anything you can give would be deeply appreciated, and if you can’t donate, Beaux and I would be so grateful for your prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
