Help beautiful Gwen fight Leukaemia

We are reaching out to seek support for Matt, Danii, and their two beautiful children, Corbin and Gwen.

Suddenly, their whole world has been turned upside down. Gwen is only 2 years old, and during the week, what started as a GP visit for an ear infection has now led to devastating news that little Gwen has Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia.

Matt & Danii were told to take Gwen to the Hospital late Wednesday afternoon. Not knowing the gravity of what lay ahead. Within hours Gwen was diagnosed, and her intensive treatment began. The following morning Gwen was taken to surgery to have a central line (pick line) put in her chest cavity above her heart and to have her bone marrow extracted for testing.

Currently Gwen’s treatment consists of daily doses of two different chemotherapies, Arsenic and Tretinoin. As well as twice daily blood tests, and heart monitoring to name a few.

The first 10 days of her treatment are the most crucial due to the side effects of her treatment and the condition of her blood.

For the initial treatment Gwen will be in hospital for a month with at least one parent with her at all times. On the 29th day of her treatments Gwen will have to undergo another surgery to have her bone marrow retested. This surgery will determine if she will be able to go home for 2 weeks rest before she commences her next lot of treatments in Hospital.

Best case scenario, Gwen is able to go home for 2 weeks between the first 2 treatment cycles for a break before commencing the next month of treatment. After the first 2 cycles she will be able to receive treatment while at home but that still requires Gwen to go to the Queensland Children’s Hospital every day to receive her medicine as her local hospital is unable to provide the medicine she requires. This will need to be repeated 4 times.

Best case scenario Gwen will reach remission in 6 months and remain cancer free for the following 12 months after treatment. (The first 12 months after remission are crucial for Gwen) What lies beyond the next 6 months is still unknown at this stage.

The family faces a very long and hard road to recovery. We have started this page in hope it will relieve some financial burden and can give Matt and Danii the opportunity to be by Gwens' side as she fights this incredible battle.
