Beau’s Trade School Tuition Fund
My application to Veterans Affairs has been processed and approved! This means that I will be receiving additional support in covering my housing costs and can bring my total down significantly.
Thank you to everyone who has reposted and contributed, I am excited to share the journey with you all.
My name is Beau (all pronouns), and I am a person with a lot of passions. From coding games and 3D modeling to building sculptures, my interests have always been deep and varied. These creative pursuits have given me a foundation in critical thought and computer engineering, skills that have allowed me to sustain myself by teaching others. And while I do believe in learning as a lifelong process, I have been shown time and time again that experience is the best predictor of success. Wanting to build what’s missing in my community, dialectically, digitally, physically, is not enough. I will need training in the fundamentals of building if I hope to make the difference for those around me and after me.
This year, I have been selected as the annual 2022 9-Month Career Pathway scholarship recipient at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking, an accomplishment I could not have dreamed possible. With this opportunity to learn the trade from master carpenters over such a dedicated program length, I will gain the skills to support myself and establish a production and fabrication studio back home in Brooklyn, NY.
Bridging my technical skills with this vocational training is a necessary step towards achieving this goal, but I cant do it alone. While I have been awarded the school’s most competitive scholarship, the award only covers 25% of the tuition. This award cannot be used for housing or material fees, leaving me to come up with the difference.
All contributions to this fundraiser put me an inch closer to my dream, and a foot closer to building a better foundation for my community.
Thank you for sharing!
