Help Beat Tom’s Blood Infection

I was recently hospitalized due to a condition called a fistula. This allows bacteria from my colon to enter my bladder and cause infections that spread to the kidneys and blood. The only reason I discovered this as problematic was because I got food poisoning that pushed me over the edge and sent me to the hospital in the first place.

Upon arrival, it was immediately determined that I was already septic and treatment was started immediately.

I never thought I’d thank food poisoning for anything, but in this case, it saved my life.

But reality set in - the fistula doesn’t heal on its own, and as long as it is left untreated, I will never get better. As it stands right now, I’m stuck on heavy antibiotics every day just to keep the infection at bay.

I’ve been hit with a rash of medical bills from hospital stays and am now looking at surgery and a long road of recovery that is going to put me down for a while.

This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but when it’s essentially life or death, something’s gotta give. I have to have surgery in 2.5 weeks and unfortunately this one requires I pay everything up front. I don’t have typical insurance help being self-employed, so these are going to pile up.

I’m not one to ask for help. I’m really not. But I’ve been pushed by some people that really care to do this, and I just want don’t want to trade my health for my living.
